Reviews

As we've gone through The Hobbit, we've seen a lot of ways for this black/red goblins deck to its army for value, and Bolg of the North looks like one of the better ways to do it. Assuming your army is sufficiently big, you can essentially skim some counters off it to destroy an opposing creature. This is a very good trade off, and there are a lot of other creatures that like you to sacrifice them for value, too. If only this ability weren't so situational, we might have been looking at a mythic uncommon, but Bolg is still very good.

Roles in each deck

  • Goblin Army Removal

This 5/5's costs you a creature. When it enters you may another creature, and Bolg deals damage equal to that creature's power to another creature, amassing any excess. With nothing worth sacrificing it is a 5/5 that does nothing else, so the ability is as situational as the review feared.

    How to play it

a creature that leaves something behind or was dying anyway: Fearsome Goblin Pair (1 damage, but 4), Rhovanion Rampager (its power in damage, and it amasses that much again), or a big whose excess damage returns as a new Army. A 1/1 deals only 1.
