Reviews
There's really very little difference between a 5/3 and a 3/3 in Limited. Enough so that putting a very real downside on this card feels a little bit like overkill. There are a few good for dwarves, but Bombur, Gentle Dreamer just looks worse than the rest.
How to draft it
Roles in each deck
Dwarves & Equipment Threat
Bombur, Gentle Dreamer doesn't untap during your untap step unless you have an , and this deck gets the story early. That is our read of why the 3-mana 5/3 holds up here while Goblin Army, which gets the story less often, wins only 53.1% with it.
How to play it
Learn the Dwarves & Equipment deckWithout the story it can block every turn, since blocking doesn't it, but after one attack it stays tapped. Hold its first attack until the story is on, or until you know you will have it before your next untap step.
Beasts and Burn Sets up the plan
Bombur, Gentle Dreamer turns on from turn 3. Ferocious only needs it on the battlefield, and a Bombur that never attacks never taps, so it blocks every turn while it waits. The review below saw little difference between a 5/3 and a 3/3, and for ferocious only the 5/3 counts.
How to play it
Learn the Beasts and Burn deckDon't attack with it until you have an . Bombur counts as one of the three, and Dori and its make the other two. A Grey Dog Treasure and Burn, Burn, Tree and Fern count one each, and the story lasts the whole game even after you spend the Treasure.
