Reviews

The reason that Gravedigger is so good is that while it , it's also a creature that you can recur, , and whatever else. Gathering of Darkness is certainly good, but it does lack that little extra punch that a typical gravedigger has. It'll probably be a good card, just not an exceptional one.

Best in decks with really good rare creatures to get back, or to set it up consistently. WB is one of my favorite homes for Gathering of Darkness, as it tends to have both.

Continuing on the theme of classic cards reborn, Gathering of Darkness is an excellent Gravedigger. A four mana 3/3 that gets back another Creature is above rate. Like Rage into the Valley, there will be times you wish this didn't have to pump your Goblin . Unlike Rage, this card is providing you with another body fresh from the grave, somewhat negating that problem.

Get your Old Fat Spiders and Gathering of Darkness while you can, in other words.

How to draft it

Roles in each deck

  • Goblin Army Gets you extra cards

The 4-mana returns up to one creature card from your to your hand and 3. Our read is that Goblin Army wants turn 4 to add pressure, and a card back plus three on an you may already have is too slow. Ferocious Wolves, a slower deck, gets more from it (57.6%).

    How to play it

Take it only as a in a slower Goblin Army deck with strong creatures to return, such as Rhovanion Rampager or Head of the Hunt.

  • Ferocious Wolves Gets you extra cards

You get a dead creature back and 3. This deck rarely has an yet, so that usually means a fresh 3/3 as well.

    How to play it

Wait until a good creature has , such as Chief Warg's Company, Head of the Hunt or Desolation Prowler. With an empty it is still a 4-mana 3/3, so don't hold it forever.

  • Removal Midrange Gets you extra cards

It returns up to one creature card from your to your hand and 3, a 3/3 if you have none. A deck that trades creatures and discards them to almost always has a good one to get back, like Gollum, Silent Slinker or a rare.

    How to play it

Wait for a good creature to die, since a back is fine but Gollum or a rare is what you want. On a turn with no creature to cast, it doubles as your 4-drop.
