Reviews

Settle the Wreckage is an incredibly powerful Magic card and is responsible for the single greatest bluff in the history of the Pro Tour. If you get your timing right, this can be a Plague Wind for a simple 4 mana. Even if your opponent gets a bunch of lands in exchange, it's really not a fair trade for them, and it'll still be very hard for them to get back into the game after a blowout like this.

Don't forget that this card exists when you're super ahead. On a deckbuilding level though, Settle the Wreckage is actively terrible in RW decks, which have virtually no way to fool anyone into running into it. WU is a proper home for this thanks to Plunder the Trollshaws, which is the best way to set up some spectacular blowouts.

There aren't many in this format, just Desolation of Smaug and Settle the Wreckage.

Roles in each deck

  • Draw Two Removal

Against an all-out attack it is a one-sided wipe. Every attacking creature the target player controls is , and that player may search for that many basic lands, which enter . It does much worse in Dwarves & Equipment (56.9%), where the 4 mana held up is wasted when they don't attack. Here that mana goes into Plunder the Trollshaws's instead.

    How to play it

Wait until attackers are declared, then target the attacking player. Save it for several attackers or one , and take the hit from a lone 2/2.
