Reviews

Even if it requires you to have some sort of equipment in play, Thorin, Mountain-king is yet another Flametongue Kavu, only this time a much more efficient one. Note that it can always target itself, so you don't even need another creature out, and Thorin has a decent amount of power to throw at something even before it becomes equipped. This Thorin is a very exciting rare for the red/white dwarves deck, though you can probably only play it there due to always needing equipment.

Roles in each deck

  • Goblin Army Removal

His enters ability moves your onto one of your creatures, and if any moved, that creature deals damage equal to its power to up to one target creature. This deck ends up with Equipment anyway (Crude Bent Blade, Goblin Plate Mail, Dáin's Axe), so the 4-mana 3/4 trampler is on a body. A reviewer thought he needed Dwarves & Equipment, and he does more here than there (62.2%), so take him in Goblin Army too.

    How to play it

Check for an on the battlefield before you cast him, because with none he is a 3/4 trampler and nothing more. Move everything onto your creature with the most power (Thorin himself with Crude Bent Blade deals 5), then pick the target. An Equipment already on that creature doesn't count, so at least one has to move for the damage.

  • Dwarves & Equipment Removal

Thorin, Mountain-king is on a 4-mana 3/4 trampler once you have an out. When it enters, it attaches any number of your Equipment to one of your creatures, and that creature then deals damage equal to its power to up to one target creature.

    How to play it

Hold it until at least one is out. Pick a creature that isn't already wearing the Equipment, often Thorin himself, because an Equipment that is already attached doesn't "become attached" and nothing deals damage. Stack every Equipment you have on the chosen creature for the biggest hit, and their creature deals no damage back.
