Reviews
Everything that Woodland Weavemaster offers looks very impressive. It's worth nothing that if all this did was for mana, that would be enough for a high grade. Instead, it allows you to cast as much as 5 mana's worth of spells on turn 3 and even attack for some damage while you're at it. This is a potentially very powerful mana dork, and I can't wait to see how I can pop off with it in the format.
The lack of any sort of 2-mana dork besides Woodland Weavemaster (which is limited to elves and a terrible blocker) means “big green” decks must rely heavily on Wood Elves and can't start ramping until turn 3.
10+ elves I guess for this one? That's probably not where you want to be anyways, so I've yet to actually play Woodland Weavemaster in any of my runs.
How to draft it
Roles in each deck
Elf Landfall Sets up the plan
Its mana equals its power and pays only for Elf spells and abilities of Elf sources, and the Elves here include Wood Elves, Mirkwood Pathmaker, Thranduil, Thranduil's Company and Boughside Wanderers. Ferocious Wolves has too few of them and gets only 49.8% from it, so take it only for this deck. The Draftsim guide skipped it, expecting it to need ten or more Elves, but about eight are enough.
How to play it
Learn the Elf Landfall deckOn turn 2 it sets up a turn-3 Thranduil or Thranduil's Company, since its 1 mana plus three lands pays for either. lets it attack and still for mana after combat. Another Elf entering gives it +1/+1 until end of turn, so it often taps for 2. , Bilbo and Silvan Rally (an , not an Elf spell) can't use its mana.
Patchwork Midrange Gets you the color you need
Its mana pays only for Elf spells and abilities of Elf sources, and white has no Elves. This deck has only the few green ones it happens to draft (such as Mirkwood Pathmaker, Wood Elves, Guardian of the Halls, Mirkwood Nurturer, Thranduil), so on most turns it is a 2-mana 1/2. Elf Landfall gets 55.3% from it, and Ferocious Wolves, which has few Elves, only 49.8%.
