Reviews
At this point, Murder is a classic Magic card and the gold standard for common spells. Bilbo's Deadly Slice is the exact same card, so we know exactly how good it's supposed to be. It cleanly answers any creature for just 3 mana, so any black deck will want to play it.
Bilbo's Deadly Slice: for just a Murder.
Bilbo's Deadly Slice is Murder. This looks like a set where killing any Creature for three mana should be pretty solid. There isn't much more to say about it, really. Sometimes Murder isn't great, but it's always "good."
This loses the "kill anything" of Bilbo's Deadly Slices and trades it for more flexibility.
How to draft it
One of the 20 cards to memorize. Destroys target creature for 3 mana, with no drawback.
Roles in each deck
Goblin Army Removal
An that destroys any creature kills what cheap damage can't, like a 5/5 Smaug, Wicked Worm or an with five counters. Take it early, because one big blocker can stop your whole attack and Pinecone Strike stops at 3 damage.
How to play it
Learn the Goblin Army deckSave it for creatures with 4 or more toughness. It can wait for their turn and kill the creature they equipped that turn, or an attacker before damage. The needs two black sources, so with 8 Swamps don't count on it on turn 3.
Ferocious Wolves Removal
Green's almost always needs one of your creatures to do the fighting. This kills the or the that your creatures can't handle.
How to play it
Learn the Ferocious Wolves deckSave it for what combat can't solve: a , a rare, a blocker walling your attackers. If nothing better shows up, kill an attacker on their turn or wait for their end step.
Removal Control Removal
Any creature to it, at speed and with no condition, so this is the card you keep for their . The cost wants two black sources by turn 3, one more reason to make black the main color.
How to play it
Learn the Removal Control deckHold it through your own turn and cast it after attackers are declared or at their end step. If nothing worth killing shows up, the mana goes to Plunder the Trollshaws or a Thrór's Map instead. A that isn't hurting you can wait for Crude Bent Blade.
Removal Midrange Removal
Nothing limits the target, so the Slice kills what Stone by Sunlight and Crude Bent Blade miss, such as a 2-power creature with a dangerous ability or a big one with beside it.
How to play it
Learn the Removal Midrange deckHold it for the creature nothing else in your deck handles. Cast it on their turn, after they attack or at the end of the turn, so you see their play first. A you can block doesn't deserve it.
