Now this is a build-around I can get behind. There is sadly no noncreature spell theme in this set, but the rate on Bothersome Noisemaker is so good that even one or two triggers from it makes it a worthwhile play. I doubt you'll want to play this in red/white too often, but black/red goblins are going to love it.

Red's best commons (Pinecone Strike, Dori, Bearer of Friends, Gundabad Opportunist) and uncommons (Bothersome Noisemaker, Burn, Burn, Tree and Fern, Gandalf, Spark Starter, Misty Mountains Raider) fit into every single deck.

Never attack your Bothersome Noisemaker into this.

Bothersome Noisemaker looks like the best of the bunch, though it isn't massively supported. In a more spell-heavy set, this could be great. Here, it's probably just "pretty good." As a 2/2 for two mana , you'll be relatively happy just getting a couple of triggers off it. Do bear in mind that your spells trigger it - at least the ones you cast from hand.

How to draft it

One of the 20 cards to memorize. Each noncreature spell you cast, such as or , 1 while this 2-mana 2/2 is on the battlefield.

Roles in each deck

  • Goblin Army Sets up the plan

With Noisemaker out, every noncreature spell also grows the , and this deck is full of cheap ones: Crude Bent Blade, Pinecone Strike, Goblin Plate Mail, Burn, Burn, Tree and Fern, and Tidings of War, which counts twice with .

    How to play it

Land it on turn 2 and hold your spells until it is out, because a Pinecone Strike cast first is a counter you never get. Equip costs and mana aren't spells, so they add nothing.

  • Dwarves & Equipment Threat

, and are all noncreature spells, so Bothersome Noisemaker 1 on most of your turns. The first time, you get a 0/0 black Goblin with a +1/+1 counter , and later casts add counters to the same Army.

    How to play it

Cast it before your noncreature spells, ideally on turn 2. The is a Goblin, so Dwarf cards ignore it, but it grows and carries . Attacking taps the Noisemaker, and a 2-toughness creature to a 2-mana Magnificent End, so it usually stays home.

  • Burn and Draw Rewards the plan

Every noncreature spell in the deck adds to your , from Pinecone Strike to Burn, Burn, Tree and Fern, and Plunder the Trollshaws and Tidings of War count once from your hand and again on . Played on turn 2 and followed by a noncreature spell each turn, it has a 3/3 Army beside it by turn 5.

    How to play it

The first trigger creates a 0/0 with one +1/+1 counter , and each later trigger adds a counter to that same Army. Lands and creature spells don't trigger it, so when you can afford only one card, a noncreature spell often comes first. Keep the 2/2 home as a blocker unless the attack is free.

  • Beasts and Burn Early play

Every noncreature spell you cast after it puts a +1/+1 counter on your , creating a 0/0 Army first if you have none. Pinecone Strike, Quarrel, the , Goblin Plate Mail and the halves Spew Flame and Easy Pickings all count.

    How to play it

Get it out before your spells. An with four counters also turns on.
