We really have come a long way since Looter il-Kor haven't we? An unblockable 1/1 that when it connects is a really powerful card that helps to smooth out your hand and make it so that your future turns are more consistent. But on top of that, Burglar's Plot can let you swap some useless 1/1 for their 5/5, which makes Bilbo, Luckwearer a great card to draw at any time. If you're designing an uncommon based around the main character of a Universes Beyond IP, you can't do much better than this.

Unfortunately for blue, its uncommons are honestly pretty lackluster, with only two exceptions (Master's Councillors and Bilbo, Luckwearer, the latter of which is a mythic uncommon).

Bilbo, Luckwearer is so good that I've started it sometimes, provided my deck can use “Burglar's Plot” well. It's even better in base blue decks though, since a turn-2 looter is incredible for setting up Lakeshore Apothecary and Bard the Bowman.

I've won longer games by tutoring up Bilbo, Luckwearer for that clutch switch after my opponent plays their .

How to draft it

One of the 20 cards to memorize. Can't be blocked, and each time it deals combat damage to a player you draw a card, then discard one. A 2-mana 1/1.

Roles in each deck

  • Draw Two Sets up the plan

Nothing can block it, and each time it deals combat damage to a player you draw a card and discard a card (a ). Every hit is an extra draw after your draw step, so from turn 3 it triggers your second-card payoffs each turn it connects. Burglar's Plot, the 5-mana , swaps one of your nonland for one of theirs that shares a card type, such as your 1/1 Soldier for their best creature.

    How to play it

Get it down on turn 2 and attack every turn after that. The comes with combat damage, so a counter from Bard the Bowman lands after the damage and helps in later fights. Against a , cast Burglar's Plot first and the 1/1 afterwards.

  • Elf Landfall Threat

Burglar's Plot, the 5-mana , exchanges control of two nonland that share a card type, so you can hand them an Elf and take their best creature.

    How to play it

    How to play it

With nothing else to do on turn 2, cast Bilbo and start . From 5 mana on, the card is often worth more held for Burglar's Plot. Give away a Soldier or your weakest creature for their , then cast Bilbo from on a later turn.

  • Burn and Draw Gets you extra cards

Nothing can block this 2-mana 1/1, and each hit draws a card and discards one, usually a spare land or a card. Burglar's Plot (, ) exchanges control of two target nonland that share a card type, so late in the game your 1/1 becomes their best creature.

    How to play it

Once they land a , swap your worst creature for it with Burglar's Plot (a 1/1 Soldier or is ideal), and cast Bilbo from on a later turn. The two must share a card type, so a can take their or a Stone Boulder token but never a nonartifact creature. A second copy is worth more as Burglar's Plot.
