Reviews
The obvious play here is to return a land so that you can retrigger a ability next turn, but you can of course return a good enters the battlefield trigger, like Bilbo Baggins, Burglar, or an adventurer card to reuse the adventure spell. What's more, this is easily playable in black/green to enable , too. Mirkwood Nurturer looks like an exceptional common with a lot of possibilities to it.
How to draft it
Roles in each deck
Ferocious Wolves Sets up the plan
Green mana pays its , so here it is a 3-mana Elf. another you control gives it a +1/+1 counter , and 4 power with it.
How to play it
Learn the Ferocious Wolves deckThe best return is Crude Bent Blade or Stony-Voiced Goblins, since each recast makes them or discard again. A land is worth returning only before your land drop for the turn. With nothing returned it stays a 3/2.
Draw Two Sets up the plan
Blue alone pays its cost. When it enters, it returns up to one other you control to your hand and, if it does, gets a +1/+1 counter . Recast, that permanent gives you a second from Patient Instructor or Long Lake Nuisance, a second from Celebrate the Mountain-king, or another card from Bilbo Baggins, Burglar.
How to play it
Learn the Draw Two deckRecast the returned card the same turn if you have the mana. Returning Celebrate frees their card (a stays gone), so recast Celebrate right away on the best target. With nothing worth returning, choose no target and keep a plain 3/2.
Elf Landfall Filler
Its puts this 3-mana 3/2 Elf in Draw Two and Ferocious Wolves decks as well, where it wins 58.2% and 56.9%, so a drafter who saw it there overrates it here.
How to play it
Learn the Elf Landfall deckIf you play it, return Silvan Reveler for another or Patient Instructor for another . The Nurturer gets its +1/+1 counter only when something comes back.
Removal Control Gets you extra cards
The in its cost is hybrid, paid with green or blue, so here it costs . Returning a you control lets you replay its enters ability: another from Crude Bent Blade, another from Long Lake Nuisance, another card from Bilbo Baggins, Burglar. Nurturer gets a +1/+1 counter when it does, so it becomes a 4/3.
How to play it
Learn the Removal Control deckPick up Crude Bent Blade after its first and recast it when they're down to one creature. A returned card can go on its Adventure again, so Take a Glance or Meager Meal comes back too. With nothing worth returning, it's a 3/2 for 3.
Burn and Draw Early play
Here you pay its with blue and get a that replays your best enters ability. Returning Dori, Bearer of Friends (another ), Patient Instructor or Long Lake Nuisance (another ) makes it a , and it becomes a 4/3 with a +1/+1 counter when you do.
How to play it
Learn the Burn and Draw deckHold it until one of those creatures is on the battlefield. A creature you stole with Burglar's Plot goes to its owner's hand, which is your opponent's.
Beasts and Burn Sets up the plan
Returning another you control when it enters makes it a 4/3, enough for from turn 3. The return pays most on a card with a good enters ability, such as Gundabad Opportunist exiling another card or Dori making another .
How to play it
Learn the Beasts and Burn deckIf you haven't played a land this turn and have nothing better to return, your lands, cast it, return a tapped land and play it again untapped. A Burn, Burn, Tree and Fern past chapter I can come back too, and recasting it deals another 6 damage.
Patchwork Midrange Sets up the plan
Returning another you control as it enters makes it a 4/3 for 3 mana, big enough for . Draw Two wins 58.2% with it and Elf Landfall 52.1%, because Draw Two has the cards worth returning, and you draft the same white ones here.
How to play it
Learn the Patchwork Midrange deckReturn something whose enter ability you want again, like Patient Instructor for another or The Mountain-king's Return after chapter II for another creature back. With nothing worth returning, skip it and the Nurturer stays a 3/2. Celebrate the Mountain-king gives back the card it , so do it only when you can recast the that turn.
